Welcome to Korsakov Borzoi (Est. 1969)
Korsakov Borzoi Kennel was established in 1969 when owner, Jane Maddox Bishop, purchased the lovely four month old puppy Loral's Matvey, from Lorraine Groshans of the famed Loral Kennels.  I am forever grateful to Lorraine for entrusting this puppy to a novice 14 year old. Owner handled, this son of the exquisite BIS/BISS Ch. Loral's Iossif Ivanevitch, went on to become a Top Ten winner (for several consecutive years), and multiple-group winner, ~ Ch. Loral's Matvey, CDX, Can. CD.  Matvey was also the Top Obediance Borzoi with the Borzoi Club of America in 1971.
In 1973 I acquired the puppy who would eventually become the multiple-group winning Ch. Cossack's Frivolous Fawn. She was the result of the brother-sister breeding of  BISS/Top Winner Ch. Cossack's Aristotle x Ch. Cossack's Aphrodite (both sired by Ch. Loral's Iossif Ivanevitch x Ch. Petrikov Tascha of Helicon) Once again, I was very fortunate to have earned the respect of a reputable breeder -  Harry Ohlinger & Jeff Campbell of Cossack Borzoi Kennels when they placed Fawn with me. Fawn was the foundation bitch for Korsakov Kennels.
Over the past 30 plus years, West Virginia ~ to Florida ~ to Virginia's Chesapeake Bay area, I have developed a carefully planned breeding program, focused on quality ~ not quantity. Twelve litters in over 30 years have produced over 30 champions, including some titled in other countries, Top Ten winners, multiple group winners in various countries, and top producers.
My philosophy is that a Borzoi must be structurally correct and sound, with ample  body, spring of rib and muscle, to be able to do the job he was developed to do ~ chase and bring down a wolf.  The entire structure of the Borzoi was developed in order to have a dog capable of this task.  The strong jaw with good length, correct bite, parallel planes, strong oval neck, correct front assembly, bladed bone, good depth and spring of rib, correctly placed and flexible arch over the loin, and a powerful driving rear are necessary. Correct type with a lovely coat is icing on the cake. A good hound cannot be a bad color.. Good temperment and health are also of utmost importance..
